Traffic Advisory: Closure of road going to Math Bldg. |

Effective Monday, 28 July 2008, all U.P. TOKI and PUVs shall take the Regidor Street going to Math building. The road going to Computational Science Research Center shall be closed to traffic due to the ongoing infrastructure works at the National Science Complex. |

Three CS professors were inducted into the National Academy of Science and Technology during the awarding rites of the 30th Annual Scientific Meeting of the National Academy of Science and Technology on 10 July 2008. The new academicians are: Dr. Jose Maria P. Balmaceda (Institute of Mathematics), Dr Gisela Padilla-Concepcion (The Marine Science Institute), Dr Gavino C. Trono (Professor Emeritus, MSI). |

UP Marine Science Institute wins Prestigious International Prize |

The Marine Science Institute of the University of the Philippines-Diliman (UP MSI) has been awarded, ex-aequo with the Global Footprint Network from the US, the Calouste Gulbenkian International Prize 2008 for its “thoughts or actions that have made a decisive contribution to and have significant impact on understanding, defending or fostering the universal values of the human condition, with particular reference to respect for biodiversity and defence of the environment in man’s relationship with nature”. |

2008 ASEAN Outstanding Scientist and Technologist Award given to Dr. Caesar Saloma |
Philippine President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo presents the 2008 ASEAN Oustanding Scientist and Technologist award to Professor Caesar Saloma in ceremonies during the 8th ASEAN Science and Technology Week and the 50th National Science and Technology Week celebration. (M. Pascua/OPS-NIB) Caesar Saloma is the recipient of the prestigious 2008 ASEAN Outstanding Scientist and Technologist (AOST) Award. The triennial award was created by the ASEAN Committee on Science and Technology in the early 1990's and is given to ASEAN scientists and technologists whose outstanding S&T achievements have been nationally and internationally recognized. Saloma was awarded on July 7, 2008 during the 8th ASEAN Science and Technology Week in Manila, Philippines. |
